I am a qualified primary school teacher, specialising in language and mathematics. I have a BA Honours degree from Durham University and a post-graduate qualification from Brunel University. I was for many years a class teacher in primary schools where I specialised principally in teaching maths and English to Level 6, and I was a specialist subject co-ordinator for mathematics and for gifted and talented children. My teaching has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.
I have been teaching extra-curricular master-classes since 1999, including those for the Government’s Excellence in Cities programme. I have worked for the DfES as an advisor and standard setter for World Class Tests in mathematics and problem-solving for Key Stage 2 children. I have also been employed by Brunel University as a mathematics specialist on the Able Children’s Education team and as a lecturer in raising standards in primary school mathematics teaching. I have written four books on Verbal Reasoning techniques and practice.
I had already prepared a new course in anticipation when the entrance exam in Buckinghamshire changed in 2013. Now, I am preparing a flexible syllabus for the new tests so that whatever is announced in November 2017, I will be ready to teach the relevant material to my pupils. Together with my husband, who is a published author, I write much of the material used on the MasterClass 11+ course; this is not published so it is unique to my pupils.
I am extremely proud that every year since 2004, about 90% of MasterClass pupils have passed the 11+ exams in Buckinghamshire. I believe this reflects both the quality of the course and my teaching.
I teach all the classes myself. I run classes that are enjoyable as well as challenging. I do also insist on high standards of behaviour so that all my pupils can focus and contribute fully in class.
